Richie Hawtin, Skrillex and Luciano have all pledged their support to Bridges For Music, an international non-profit organisation supporting “responsible development of electronic music in emerging areas, with a focus on promoting social cohesion by using music as a tool for empowerment”.
The organisation was founded in South Africa last year, and the three international DJ stars have been out to South African townships recently to visit and inspire local residents. Richie, Skrillex and Luciano participated in a series of free music events across disadvantaged townships in Johannesburg and Cape Town, participating in Q&As and meeting local electronic music producers — both budding and relatively established.
Bridges For Music hope initiatives such as this will “bridge the gap between fractured communities by inspiring them to the power of music and how to harness its opportunities.
“The ultimate goal is to enhance the real values of music and the opportunities the music industry has to create positive change and leave a legacy while developing in new territories.”
