Jesse Rose tells us about his favourite recent gigs

Jesse Rose has served as part of UK house music royalty for over a decade. He's initiated a handful of labels — Front Room, Made To Play, Play It Down — released two LPs and boasts a sizeable back catalogue. All this means is that when he makes a noise people listen. 2013 saw him roll out his '12X12' concept, releasing a new tune on the 12th of every month throughout the course of 2013, and he's rearranged and edited the results to make his third artist album. 'The Whole Twelve Inches' is a bumping collection of chunky, metallic house tracks layered with spoken word samples.
Last year also saw Jesse play some of his favourite venues, so we asked him to pick his highlights...

Made For the Day, Picnik Electronik, Barcelona
“We had a special one-off Made For the Night event during the day for the opening party of Barcelona's Picnik Electronik festival. Three thousand people showed up to dance in the park above Barcelona. Derrick Carter and Guti smashed it with their sets and my old mate Jamie Anderson (O&A) flew in last minute to cover Oliver $ who had flight troubles. We didn't really know what to expect but Barcelona came through. Still brings chills when I think about it."

Calvi On the Rocks, Calvi
“I played at Calvi for the first time last year — just the fact that its location is this amazing old town gets you excited. As you play you're looking over the Mediterranean Sea and the most picturesque mountains as the sun comes up. My good mate Claude VonStroke was also on the bill that night, which made it extra fun. A definite standout moment of 2013.”

Made In America Festival, Philadelphia
“To be invited as the only underground artist to play Jay Z's Made In America festival, I wasn't sure how the crowd was going to react. I was a little worried people wouldn't get it or even show up for my set but it was utterly fantastic. Seems like kids in Philly are really open-minded, the response was a very pleasant surprise.”

Fabric Live, Fabric, London
“I normally play Saturdays at Fabric but this time I got asked to play at TEED's night on a Friday. It was honestly like going back 10 years in London when everyone went nuts to nearly every record you played. Fabric still got it going on after all these years. Respect.”

Made For the Night, Watergate, Berlin
“My club brand Made For the Night has residencies and one-offs around the world, but Watergate in Berlin was the place the night was born and to this day keeps me wanting to come back for more. In November our line-up was Black Rose (Henrik Schwarz and myself) live, which always attracts a road block as we only perform very rarely. Jennifer Cardini opened for us upstairs, then downstairs we had Detroit Swindle and our resident Oliver $ all night who both smashed it. It was a really special evening.”

Circus, New Year's Day, Liverpool
“I aways knew this was going to be a good one with such a great line-up: Carl Craig, Jamie Jones, Nic Fanciulli, Detroit Swindle and Space Dimension Controller. That, and Liverpool has seriously one of the best crowds. I played after Jamie Jones and then we all got properly drunk like it was New Year's Eve again. Went straight to the airport from the club to catch a flight to New York, let's just say it was not an easy plane ride...”
