MIAMI BLOG: DAY FIVE | Skip to main content

Wednesday March 20th

So following a slight lull in proceedings between Ultra Week One, and WMC proper, yesterday marked the start of the biggest parties in the lead up to the second week of Ultra.

And the parties don't get much bigger than our one! I know we are always going to say that, but it is true - for the last five years our opening pool parties have been the hottest ticket in South Beach. We throw together a festival-sized line up and charge a tiny door tax. Can't say fairer than that!

This year, we moved to Delano, in a change from our previous four years at The Shelborne. Readers of yesterday's blog, will know all about our stage built into the pool and the buzz on Twitter in the lead up was intense!

@AshleighDav89 told us "Can't wait for @DJmag pool party at @delanosobe !! #Miami #wmc

And the DJs were getting in on the act too. Eats Everything spread the excitement;

@eats_everything: Miami chums, I am on 6-7 at the @DJmag party at Delano on Collins if you fancy a wee boogie. x

As did our massive headliner, Hardwell;

@HARDWELL: Great night in Mexico! On my way back to Miami. Playing at the @DJmag Poolparty today!

Following a sun-tinged intro from DJ Mag's own Joe Robots, Defected house groover Noir kicked things off as the sun streamed over the pool. Chunky rolling house grooves all the way from the Swiss Noir Music man who is set to go supersonic in 2013

Up next, bass music starlets Dusky showed no mercy as they fired through a pounding set of garage inspired house cuts, showing the Americans the sound of the UK right now.

Nic Fanciulli took things to the next level, with a rolling tech house set peaking with Saso Recyd's incredible mix of Burial's Archangel.

Miami Beach's best soundsystem was then treated to Dennis Ferrer's proper house beats. However half way through his set the rain started to come down. Unpeturbed, the master dropped a themed track and everyone danced in the rain until it passed and normal order was restored.

The sun started to break back through the clouds and the stage was set for Eats Everything, who elevated the crowd to melting point with his unique mix of edits, breakdowns and basslines aplenty!

Then came Zabiela. Riding high after the successful launch of his Born Electric Label, the tech wizard treated to the crowd to everything from his standard prog-leaning techno through to a rasping drum & bass crescendo. A truly versatile DJ, who always delivers, hence his appearance on this line up every year for half a decade!

Moving seamlessly from the underground into the big-room EDM sound, headliner Hardwell took to the decks and hyped the crowd to boiling point with his selection of familiar hooks, rasping beats and incredible stage presence.

He was followed by the equally charismatic Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano who had the crowd eating out of the palms of their hands with a selection of pounding tech house before making way for Sidney Samson who rolled out the beats until late.

All in all it was a memorable day and night, and definitely one of the best events we have ever done in Miami.

It was good to see that you guys felt the same too;

@andre_aolaa took to twitter to say "Wow I had way tooo much fun yesterdayyy at the @DJMag partyy"

and @ysekander hit the nail on the head when he tweeted;

@DJmag best pool party I've ever been to today! Delano is perfect spot
