After the stinker that was Zac Efron’s EDM film ‘We Are Your Friends’, you’d think the television industry would have lost their appetite for a whole series about dance music — it appears not.
US television networks CW and CBS TV Studios are developing an EDM-themed drama titled The Drop, produced by R.J. Cutler (Nashville) and none the than Steve Angello, who has been brought on as an executive music producer.
According to Deadline, the series is set in the “sexy, nonstop world of Miami’s electronic dance music scene” and follows a “DJ teetering on the edge of ruin who finds hope (and more) in a gifted protégé who is female and African-American”.
It’s not the only show currently in the works, HBO announced a dance music comedy series titled Higher early last year. 'Trainspotting' author Irvine Welsh is confirmed to be writing the script for the series, with Calvin Harris overseeing the music and Jay Z down as an executive producer. Sounds promising.
