These are the Top 30 UK club events in September 2018
Innervisions Royal Albert Hall, Mint Club 20th Anniversary, Field Maneuvers, Brock Out vs Planet Fun!, Expert Death, FLY Open Air...
The warmer months are about to become distant memories, but despite HBO recently unveiling the new 'Game of Thrones' teaser we're not quite ready to say "winter is coming", with a handful of outdoor sessions still inbound.
Not least the beloved Field Maneuvers, FLY Open Air, Mint Festival at a brand new location, experimental newcomer Cosmic Roots (with De School resident Elias Mazian amongst others), the first ever Diynamic Festival and upmarket Festival No.6's final instalment for the foreseeable future.
As summer thins the club season restarts, though, and London's priorities include two of its newest spaces. Berlin's KILLEKILL, born in Berghain Kantine, celebrates a decade in business via Radioactiveman, Neil Landstrumm and bossman DJ Flush at charitable spot The Cause. And 24-hour licensed venue FOLD goes EBM via Rotterdam's Pinkman— Marsman b2b Allesandro Adriani, Black Merlin, Identified Patient and one to check, Lokier. Not forgetting Freerotation at Pickle Factory; Tom & Joe Ellis, Leif and Steevio & Suzybee showcasing the sound of their celebrated Welsh rave.
Highlights up North, aside from Leeds institution Mint Club turning 20, include Pretty Pretty Good's stellar line-up— Hivern Discs’ leader John Talabot joins Mor Elian of Hypercolour, Offen’s Vladimir Ivkovic and superbly astute selector Gwenan in Sheffield. Manchester, on the other hand, shouldn’t miss subterranean techno soiree Rhythm Theory, which scores a coup with Taapion honcho and Parisian Concrete regular Shlømo touching down ahead of a forthcoming album.
We’re sad to see Southampton’s Junk bowing out after 13 years down South. Guests will be revealed on the night, but expect hugeness given this is where it all ends. More positively, we're happy to have Bass Clef on our pages, the multi-instrumentalist utilises everything from trombones to modulars in his sets, and is joined in Brighton by sound artist Rosen and synth popper A’Bear.
Noise Test returns to Bristol this month, again offering junglists live works in progress from scene heroes— this time Resound’s Rhytual project, The Untouchables and Artilect. In:Motion kicks back into life, too, with a massive bill including Blawan, Floating Points and Amelie Lens. Oh, and don’t forget Mi Casa Su Casa, with rising London technoists Blind Motive and Bristol’s wildly varied Waxmouse.
Elsewhere, City Fly helps open a brand new venue in Leicester via UK spinner Aroop Roy (expect Afro, Latin, jazz, house and disco), grime-bass label SpentShell has a showcase in Nottingham with Flowdan, Italian techno pioneers Domenico Crisci and Yari Greco head to Birmingham, the multifaceted Debonair and Planet Mu don µ-Ziq, AKA Mike Paradinas, hit Glasgow and Ross From Friends begins his UK album dates at Aberdeen’s The Tunnels.
