In:Motion returns to flex its musical muscles with the biggest lineup to date

Although Bristol has long been revered as a hotbed for UK-born dance music, the scene - steeped in soundsystem culture - hinged mostly on bass music over the years, ruling as the nation's second city for d&b and dubstep. Though by no means a problem for many, over the past 12 months the groovier, more melodic styles of the 4/4 have gradually emerged as another dominating force, pioneered by house heads such as Julio Bashmore, Waifs & Strays and former d&b junkie Eats Everything.

None of this should go without raising a glass to In:Motion. The South-West's saving grace for the city's dance enthusiasts, it's been annually pitched within the depths of Bristol's Motion Skatepark since 2010 – in a similar vein to Manchester's Warehouse Project – for four months at a time, bringing a fresh wave that's contributed to the city's ongoing facelift. It returns this year between September and December, with the likes of Sven Väth, Seth Troxler, Fatboy Slim, Jamie Jones and Josh Wink to name just a few.

This is not to say that the original sounds of Brizzol have been forgotten though. D&b gurus High Contrast, Netsky and Nicky Blackmarket will be there to jiggle internal organs alongside a host of other members from the Hospitality cru. Besides that, breakmaster Krafty Kuts is set to make an appearance, as well as hip hop giants Public Enemy, who will be bringing the noise to the city as part of their 25th Anniversary tour.

Driven by the irrevocably on-point path laid by Motion's flagship night Just Jack, carried on by likes of Cocoon, Hospitality and Bugged Out, this year's In:Motion season is destined to be the deadliest yet.
