Moodymann was reportedly arrested at gunpoint today (16th January) while on his own property.
The legendary Detroit DJ/producer – real name Kenny Dixon Jr – shared a since-deleted video to his Instagram in which he described a situation where armed police surrounded him in his backyard demanding proof of ownership. Despite his being in possession of his keys for the house, police reportedly charged him with breaking and entering.
The video appeared to show police officers shining a torchlight into Moodymann’s car while appearing to point a rifle at him. In his caption attached to the video the DJ claimed that “What you can’t see is 9 other officers pointing their AR15 and other pistols directly at my head.” He also explains that he was subsequently taken into custody. You can read the full caption below.
He concluded the Instagram post with the following words: "Next time just pull the MF trigger let’s get this shit over with. (I’m tired) I’m so tired."
Support for Moodymann has come from the likes of The Black Madonna and Mike Servito.
Kenny is a great man. He’s a man of peace. We have to stop terrorizing black men. The sound of his voice is something that will haunt. I’m so glad they didn’t shoot. Thank god they didn’t, but fuck this.
