STREAM SOULWAX’S NEW ALBUM ‘BELGICA’
Out this Friday via Play It Again Sam...
Never one to shy away from taking risks, Belgian electro-rockers Soulwax decided for their new Soulwax album – their first in well over a decade – they would soundtrack a rowdy Belgian film called 'Belgica', and create 16 fictional bands in the process.
“We recorded the original music being played in the club, wrote the music, rehearsed and recorded live on set the tracks played by the bands,” explains the group. “Ranging from a live kraut techno band, White Virgins, bequiffed psychobilly trio They Live through to hardcore outfit Burning Phlegm (featuring Sepultura’s Igor Cavalera) whilst chanteuse Charlotte represents the other end of the spectrum with her neo soul pop.”
A diverse collection of songs, performed by a similarly varied set of artists has seen Soulwax create what is a unique soundtrack that continues to see them evolve as musical progressionists. The film has already received rave reviews when it got its screening at this year’s prestigious Sundance Film Festival.
The last few years have also seen the brothers launch their innovative and hugely successful Radio Soulwax project – which almost bankrupt the duo – create the world’s best vinyl-only soundsystem alongside James Murphy, whilst still finding time to tour the world as 2manydjs, and setup their own label DEEWEE Records.
