Ritchie Hawtin was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Huddersfield for outstanding contribution to the world of music-technology last year.
Born in England, raised in Canada and now based in Berlin, Hawtin returned to the University of Huddersfield last week to deliver a masterclass to students on his Model One PLAYdifferently mixer.
Afterwards he spoke with one of the university’s senior lecturers, Dr Rupert Till, about his career, how he performs and conceptualises his work. You can watch the full talk below.
“We can’t push forward if everybody is doing the same thing,” he said speaking at the event. “That’s not why I got involved in electronic music.”
