This year, however — because of a change in the WMC schedule — the focus of the season is now spread over most of March. Now, with the conference taking place between 8th-12th and Ultra Music Festival between 25th- 27th, the party season is even longer with the majority of parties happening around the latter part of the month. So, grab your shades, slap on the lotion and slip on your ‘I’m in Miami Bitch’ vest, because these are the parties that you simply cannot miss if you so happen to, like us, find yourself kicking around the sunnier climes of South Beach this month. Whether you call their music Dirty Dutch, the Dutch Sound or just Dutch house, the main players from Holland's house scene such as Afrojack, Chuckie and Sidney Samson couldn't be hotter right now. They're starting to work with gigantic US hip-hop/r&b stars via the ubiquitous David Guetta, but where did this scene come from and what is it - apart from geography - that binds the various players together?
It's no coincidence that since the inception of the Amsterdam Dance Event in 1996, Dutch music has slowly been infiltrating dance at every level, from its distinctive big name trancers down through the ranks of Dutch house producers to the techier underground sounds of labels such as 100% Pure.
