It’s fair to say that Oliva changed the face of her local scene, and she’s now making her mark around Europe. The Kraków native came up at a time when drum & bass was the predominant sound of the city, but years of her own hard work as a DJ and promoter mean it is now about so much more. Olivia first went to legendary local club Kanty with her older brother and “had to bribe bodyguards” and “sneak in through the fence”.
Moodymann announces expanded digital version of new album, 'Sinner'
Moodymann has announced details of an expanded digital version of his new album, 'Sinner'.
The legendary Detroit DJ, real name Kenny Dixon Jr, will release a seven-track, digital version of the album on 21st June. The original vinyl edition of the album - which was sold on limited edition vinyl at a barbecue during Movement Detroit - included five tracks.
The forthcoming digital version will also including 'Got Me Coming Back Rite Now', which will replace the original's title track.
Moodymann sells new EP at a barbecue in Detroit
Moodymann has released a new double-pack titled Sinner.
The record was available for sale in Detroit over the weekend during Movement Festival. Copies were sold by the DJ and producer for $10 at a barbecue that he hosted in Detroit on Sunday. There were also some copies available for purchase at a few record shops around Detroit.
The opening track, 'I'll Provide', has been posted online and can be heard below. The five-track double-pack, which has been released via Moodymann's own KDJ label, is not yet available to buy online.
GRiZ: Riding the waves
Grant Kwiecinski has found his zen. Better known to fans as the saxophone-slinging GRiZ, the 28-year-old producer, DJ and instrumentalist is one of those precious few artists who practices exactly what he preaches. The face behind the hashtag #showlovespreadlove is warm and welcoming, but underneath his clever quips and mile-long smiles is a real person who’s not afraid to talk about the stuff that keeps him up at night.

Techno pioneer Juan Atkins is rewiring his electro legacy
Juan Atkins has always been, in his own words, “a music lover”. Growing up in Detroit, he would treat his parents’ dinner parties as an opportunity to act as DJ for the night, taking control of the record player to share what was catching his ear as a young, impressionable teenager. This was some years before he would first be exposed to synthesizers and electronic music, and go on to form countless essential partnerships as a producer, DJ, label owner and mentor.

Detroit club legend DJ Minx talks history, house and the spirit of Motor City
DJ Minx has stood at the core of Detroit’s club scene for over 20 years now. Motor City born and bred, the stalwart DJ, producer and Women On Wax collective/label founder, has stood as a champion for her hometown’s sound. Known to many as the “First Lady of Wax”, Minx – real name Jennifer Witcher – has hosted a rgular radio show on Red Bull Radio in recent years, with a focus always being placed on the sounds of Detroit.
Movement Festival Detroit launches crowdfunding campaign for ‘Grandma Techno’ photo book
A kickstarter has been launched to help publish the photobook They Call Me Grandma Techno by Detroit photographer Patricia Lay-Dorsey.
Started by Detroit Techno Foundation, 1xRUN and Paxahau, and the producers of Movement Festival, the book features photos taken by the local hero at the festival between 2007 – 2018.
Tidal announce $1 Million grant program for emerging artists
Tidal have announced a $1 million grant program aimed at helping emerging artists, called 'Tidal Unplugged'.
Funded by venture capital financiers Robert Nelsen and Mark Lampert, the program pilot will centre on Detroit, where local artists can submit their music as a form of applying for part of the grant money.
The money can be put towards expenses like studio hire and new equipment, and the finalists will record four songs which will be distributed with Tidal promotional support.
Jeff Mills reissuing rare and classic techno EPs in new Axis series
Jeff Mills will launch his new ‘Director’s Cut’ re-issue series on Axis records this week.
The first edition of the project features four tracks from throughout his catalog, including a previously unreleased version of his 2005 cut, ‘Suspense’. The retrospective release also features 1995’s ‘Gamma Player’, 2000’s ‘Transformation B’ and ‘Hydra & Synergy’.
Moodymann arrested at gunpoint outside own home
Moodymann was reportedly arrested at gunpoint today (16th January) while on his own property.
The legendary Detroit DJ/producer – real name Kenny Dixon Jr – shared a since-deleted video to his Instagram in which he described a situation where armed police surrounded him in his backyard demanding proof of ownership. Despite his being in possession of his keys for the house, police reportedly charged him with breaking and entering.
