After the success of last summer’s event, Charivari Detroit is back! This year will see the festival move site to Belle Isle State Park — the largest city based park in the United States — on 1st and 2nd August, no doubt to accommodate the huge line-up they have in store. And what’s more, it’s completely free.


Movement Festival is back for another year with a line-up that's set to make your eyes water! Featuring the best of Detroit's techno heavy hitters from the last 3 decades — think legends like Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May and Terrence Parker — Movement will run over the last weekend of May at Detroit's Hart Plaza.

"The universe is all about creativity, it's all about learning, it's all about knowledge," Jimmy Edgar ventures when we sit down to talk about Ultramajic, the label and visual aesthetic that he’s conjured up with Machinedrum (aka Travis Stewart) and artist and designer Pilar Zeta. It’s something, certainly, that his life has embodied. 

Objekt is TJ Hertz — a Berlin-dwelling producer who's gained notoriety with a series of carefully crafted dancefloor focused 12s for a select group of reputable labels. So far so typical, But Objekt is light years ahead, with a fresh broken techno aesthetic, taste for Detroit electro flavours and a conceptual vision more interesting than most denizens of the German capital. 

Born, raised and still residing on the southwest side of Detroit, Manuel Gonzales, aka MGUN, is living proof that the city’s electronic landscape is neither a long-gone legacy, nor will it be making a comeback. Rather, the metropolis he has always called home remains a creative enclave, continuously pumping out producers of the highest order.

Detroit's Movement Electronic Music Festival (formerly DEMF), one of the best underground techno and electronic music festivals in the US, is just a month away. For those of you that are first-timers, we have compiled a guide to help make sure your first year is memorable and stress-free. 

1. Attire

While the US has no shortage of festivals, if you're looking to cut through the unecessary window-dressing of flashy production and pyrotechnics to hone in on the best music, then Movement is the place to go.

“My first gig was kinda interesting. It was in Detroit of course, south-west Detroit specifically, very close to the iconic Michigan Central Station. Rave spots often have a lot of stories associated with them, 'lore' if you will.

Dimensions Festival returns to Fort Punta Christo in Pula, Croatia this summer for its third season — and it has just announced a top underground line-up.

Electronic producer Caribou, Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington's Darkside project, Mercury-nominated Jon Hopkins and legendary funk soul brother Roy Ayers are just a few of the principal acts who'll be playing at the event.
