The Hacienda has been voted one of the UK's top historic sites, despite the fact the warehouse that once housed the Manchester club no longer exists.
The endorsement, from Historic England, has ranked the lost institution, widely regarded as one of the birthplaces of both post punk and acid house, on its list, A History of England in 100 Places.
It joins ten other addresses renowned for music and literature, including Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon birthplace, London's 100 Club, and Jane Austen's house in Chawton, Hampshire.

Police shut down an illegal rave at a disused Carpetright warehouse in Kent last weekend.
Officers dispersed hundreds of revellers when they were called to Strood Retail Park at 11.30pm on Saturday 16th November. Police said a 39-year-old man from Ashford was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to commit a public order offence and supplying a psychoactive substance (nitrous oxide).

The Japanese DJ and producer organised the Shibuya Protest Rave in the country's capital on Saturday (26th October).
In advance of the event, which featured sets from the likes of Miru Shinoda and Mari Sakurai, Mars89 - whose 'TX-55' we premiered back in October - offered up the slogan, "We Dance Together. We Fight Together" in relation to the event's open resistance against racism, anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination, sexism and more.

French authorities pass new 'anti-rave' legislation
French authorities have passed new legislation which is being labelled 'anti-rave'.
The Senate gave approval to the new regulations late last night, Tuesday 22nd October. The aim is to "strengthen the supervision of rave parties and sanctions against their organisers".
From here, the National Assembly will make the final decision as to whether the proposals should be enshrined in French law.
